Introduction

There are different ways of installing Exact Globe. One way is to use Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI). MSI provides corporate deployment and standard format component management for users. Companies use MSI if the users do not have administrator rights on their local computer. The main advantage of using MSI is that it works with standard user rights. This provides a more comprehensive user experience whereby users who have only standard user rights on their computer can install their own patches.

This document provides the guidelines to install Exact Globe at the client workstation via network installer

Description

To install Exact Globe at the client workstation via network installer, you have to do the following:

• Create a network installation via MSI in the server
• Install Exact Globe in the client workstation

To install patch to the MSI, you have to do the following:

• Update the MSI in the server
• Install the updated MSI file in the client workstation

Installing Exact Globe in the client workstation via network installer

Create a network installation via MSI in the server

1. Login to the server.
2. Download the MSI installer to the local drive.
3. Go to the command prompt in Windows by clicking Start/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt.
4. In the Command Prompt screen, type msiexec /a [MSI Installer directory and file name] TARGETDIR=[Exact Globe Network-Workstation Installation directory]. For example, msiexec /a “D:\MSI\Exact Globe.msi” TARGETDIR=”D:\MSI_NetworkInstallation”.
   
   
    
5. The Exact Globe Setup screen will be displayed once the Exact Globe Setup Wizard is installed. Click Finish.
   
    
    
6. Go to the directory where the Network Installation is installed. For example, D:\MSI_NetworkInstallation.
7. Share the Network Installation directory.

Install Exact Globe in the client workstation

1. Login to the client workstation.
2. Go to the Network Installation directory.
3. Run Exact Globe.msi to install Exact Globe. The Exact Globe Setup screen will be displayed.
   
   
    
4. In the Exact Globe Setup screen, click Next to install Exact Globe. You will then see the following screen:
   
   
   
   
5. Select the I accept the terms in the License Agreement check box and then click Next. The following screen will be displayed.
   
   
6. By default, C:\Program Files\Exact Software\ will be displayed. Click Browse if you want to install Exact Globe in another folder. Click Next to continue. You will see the following screen:
    

    

   
    
7. Click Install to start the installation.

Installing patch to the MSI

Update the MSI in the server

1. Copy the latest MSP file (for example, Exact Globe Build 10065TH7.msp) from the FTP server and paste the file in the same network installation folder.
2. Go to the command prompt in Windows by clicking Start/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt.
3. In the Command Prompt, type msiexec /a [path to administrative image .msi file] /p patch.msp. For example, msiexec /a “D:\MSI_NetworkInstallation\Exact\Globe.msi” /p “D:\MSI_NetworkInstallation\Exact Globe Build 10065TH7.msp”.
   
   
    
4. A screen with message “Completed the Exact Globe setup wizard” will then be displayed. Click Finish to exit.
5. Check the last modified date of the Exact Globe.msi file in the folder where you placed the file (for example, D:\MSI_NetworkInstallation) to make sure that the MSI file is updated.

Install the updated MSI file in the client workstation

1. Create a batch file (for example, Network_Update.bat) with the command msiexec /fvomus [path to the updated network msi file]. For example, msiexec /fvomus \\gohj175745-1\MSI_NetworkInstallation\Exact Globe.msi
   
   
   
2. Select the Network_Update.bat file to run the patch update at the client workstation.
3. A screen with message “Completed the Exact Globe setup wizard” will then be displayed. Click Finish to exit.
